Welsh Water has entered into a £100m outsourcing contract for transforming its business processes and overhauling its IT systems. This is being considered as one of the largest deal signed by a U.K. utility. The companies which are involved in the deal are LogiaCMG, CapGemini and TCS.
The deal requires major hardware replacements and a move from legacy software towards a fully integrated SAP enterprise resource planning system. It is expected that the results would be visible within a period of five years.
As per Fraser Nairn, Head, IT, Welsh Water:
In the past we have not invested a great deal in IT, and we want to update all our systems to give much better services to our customers and bring big efficiencies into the business. We have a lot of legacy technology, and the water industry as a whole is moving on with IT transformations. We are behind and want to catch up.
