Even though the Indian ITeS-BPO sector is all set to achieve its projected revenue target of $8.5 bn in the year 2006-07 but in reaching this milestone it is facing manpower crisis. This sector is facing high attrition rate due to building up of high stress levels which leads to depression and sleep disorders. The stress further builds up as these youngsters from traditional Indian upbringing are required to work in night shifts, speak with an accent, dress smartly etc.

This is what the Nasscom website stated:

The IT-ITeS industries are grappling with the crucial issue of manpower acquisition and retention. Attrition levels remain high, causing concern for organisations. Indian IT-ITeS players, both large and small, are struggling with a workforce crisis! People issues loom large on the agendas of companies that are attempting to position themselves as the `best career destination,’ `employer of choice,’ and the `best place to work’.

Employees are forced to take regular calls for hours and also face abusive customers. Long work shifts and the competitive working environment cause resentment and frustration among the employees which causes them to quit their jobs. Until and unless these problems are solved the attrition rate would continue to rise.
