Aviation outsourcing is becoming necessary in order to control costs which include the cost of production and spreading of high investment costs related to development and tooling. Other reasons which are being cited are access to the global markets, reducing cycle time and finding out the right people with the required skills.

There are several things which must be kept in mind while outsourcing. Digital technology should be there for transferring large files and there must be required communication among engineers working on the project. Companies should also have a well defined process and a common database and tools with suppliers.

Take for example Adam Aircraft which is having orders for five hundred planes and would like to use more suppliers as it is moving from development to manufacturing. Most of the parts are made in house but it is looking towards the industry for subassembly help.

Adam commented:

We’re going to be good at design and fabricating fuselages... and get help on everything else, then do final assembly.

Certainly aviation outsourcing is the next big thing in the outsourcing industry.
