You thought that health outsourcing was American hospitals offshored work to India then I must correct you. Indian hospitals are trying to improve their efficiency by moving labs, diagnostic and even managerial work to specialized units in the country.



As per Dr B K Rao, Chairman, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital:

Many hospitals today have back-to-back arrangement with various labs for doing specialized tests. They do not disclose it to the patient, but the facility is generally used for high end lab tests. Lot of genetic samples are also moving within the country as very few specialized centers for conducting these tests are available.

A number of models have come up in case of local healthcare outsourcing and they range from contracts to joint ventures. It presents huge benefits for patients in remote areas. The benefits are gained in terms of low costs. This has also given birth to the scope of knowledge outsourcing with foreign hospitals and this would enable sharing of knowledge on various diseases.



This is certainly a win-win situation for the hospital and outsourcing partners as hospitals would be able to cut their costs and the centers would get a regular clientele.
