You all know that offshoring to Asia Pacific countries is a prominent feature among developed countries but do you know what homeshoring is? Homeshoring refers to agents operating from their respective homes as long as they have access to a computer and broadband internet connection. If the report from IDC is to be believed it states that homeshoring is gaining prominence among BPOs located in Asia Pacific countries.

Now why it is gaining prominence is because it reduces vehicular pollution, brings down the time spent in commuting to offices and enables the employees to fulfill their family responsibilities. Also referred to as telecommuting at several places it also provides employment opportunities for older people who cannot commute. This trend was witnessed during Asian outbreak of SARS in 2003 and since then it seems to be catching up.

But there are certain bottlenecks which have to be dealt with in order to make homeshoring a success. The hiccups are in terms of availability of infrastructure in terms of internet, electrical and telecommunications and rising demands from the employees.

Apart from these problems with conservative management cultures prevailing in these countries where the bosses prefer to see their employees in one place and the quality of service to be monitored a big issue it seems that it might take some time for homeshoring to get total acceptance or chances are it might never be able to spread its wings.
