This is something which will shake you up. HP is divesting its majority stake in its BPO arm in India. H-P Global eBusiness Operations has employee strength of around six thousand people and is based in India. It has decided to give up its majority shareholding and acquire a minority status in the company. Up till now there is no confirmation from the company officials.
If the divestment takes place it would be in line with what was done by GE earlier. Companies like GE and Unilever have already divested their stake. These big companies are offloading their stakes in these captive BPO’s as the third party service providers offer them quality services in a cost effective manner.
I hope that the divestment does not affect the employment of the huge workforce associated with it.
