If this merger goes through then the biggest loser in this deal would be IBM. I am talking about the proposed merger of Delta Air Lines and US Airways. IBM stands to lose a major outsourcing deal which Delta entered into with IBM.
In a letter sent to Delta Airways CEO by US Airways CEO stated that:
Delta’s IT outsourcing contracts “are appropriate for a standalone plan, but that would be different were Delta to be merging.”
US Airways feels that if Delta continues with its outsourcing deals it could have a significant impact on merger talks. Losing out on outsourcing deals is not something new for IBM which had to face a similar situation when Bank One had cancelled the outsourcing contract between IBM and JP Morgan Chase after their merge. What can IBM do in this situation, my advice, keep your fingers crossed and pray to god.
