Even clinical trials are being outsourced with China emerging as a top destination for outsourcing clinical trials followed by India and then Russia. India found a place in the top three due to factors such as faster enrollment, large patient pool and finally low costs. Since India has a vast and available pool of naive population this has reduced the recruitment time of patients by as much as thirty to forty percent.

If India would like to be on top of the charts then it needs to develop a strong infrastructure and develop a strong network of hospitals. As of now India services just five to ten percent of the clinical trials but over a couple of years it is expected to undertake around one third of the clinical trials.

In India clinical trials are being conducted in the areas of cancer and cardiometabolic and companies are also planning to market their products too. What is encouraging companies to choose India is not only the cost factor but also the type of patients available in the country. With clinical outsourcing industry booming it’s time now that the government should step in and try and regulate these trials so that patient abuse could be minimized during clinical trials.
