India seems to be everywhere, we all now of the mark India has made in the BPO segment now it seems as if India is going to take the R&D in the pharmaceutical industry to a new level. India has a sound base in the science and technology sector. There are around 200 universities in India and around 1,200 in-house R&D labs and a chain of national laboratories. The cost is around one-fifth in India as compared to other countries and the R&D capacity is second only to the United States of America. Another thing where India is ahead is the number of drug manufacturing plants approved by the FDA, which again is second only to U.S.
According to the report by RNCOS- “Opportunities in Indian Pharma Sector”, India is soon poised to become a major R&D destination for pharmaceuticals. The report says that the year 2005 has seen major deals between Multinationals and India companies.
