India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated his concerns that Indian outsourcing industry was suffering due to infrastructure deficit and in order to deal with this problem, the Indian government was trying to plug the gap.
As per media reports, Dr. Manmohan Singh stated that India required Rs 14, 50,000 crore by the year 2012 for overcoming this hurdle and for this private sector participation would be required on a large scale.
In order to achieve this government would be coming out with an independent policy and regulatory mechanism.
Dr. Manmohan Singh stated:
In the coming weeks and months, we will be finalizing the remaining elements of the policy, regulator and institutional framework for PPPs in infrastructure. Our growth potential will be realized only if we can ensure that our infrastructure does not become a severe handicap. The quality and capacity of our infrastructure is certainly a matter of concern to one and all. We must deal with this deficit
