Is India listening? Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) is into negotiation with a number of large UK and US based MNCs who are interested in making Malaysia a shared services and outsourcing (SSO) hub.

As per Rob Cayzer, MDeC’s programme director for SSO:

I cannot reveal the names of these companies at the moment, but I can tell you that each of these companies is thinking of hiring several thousands of people for their operations.

More than half of the companies are US based and talks are in an advanced phase and would be concluded within the next six months. Malaysia is being seen as an ideal destination for SSO and is expected to generate tremendous growth for the country.

Certainly these are warning bells for both India and Philippines which are outsourcing hubs and this could certainly hurt their business in the long run if they lose their competitiveness.
