Storage management activities are showing an upward trend. Now around one fifth of the Fortune 1000 companies are outsourcing some parts of their storage management activities. This trend had lost steam during 2001 when a number of dot com companies went bust. This resulted in a situation where IT companies were not willing to part with their storage and management activities and a number of them were not willing to let upstart service providers control their data.

This trend seems to be on the reversal following the revival of the dot com industry and a number of companies have now started to outsource their e-mail archiving to various companies and around a one third of the companies are now using outsourcing for their daily back up activities and disaster recovery sites.

This seems to be good news for the outsourcing industry which has got hold of another avenue for generating business. Now it’s up to the outsourcing industry to see how it tackles this area and generates steady income for itself.
